Colombia vs Venezuela Culture Venezuelas Culture Compared to Colombias Culture Believe systems and traditions shared by a group of people are clearly defined the huge meaning of countrys culture. This culture could be transmitting easily between the neighboring countries. Obviously, those countries shared a lot of believe and tradition which is consequently defines the meaning of the countrys culture. However, Venezuela and Colombia are neighboring countries and even more both of them had discovered by Spanish explorers. So, the culture in both of them, at first glance, obtains many similarities, but in the other hand, there are a few differences. As long as Venezuela and Colombia were Spanish colony, ethnic group is one of the main aspects that both of them are shared. In Venezuela, Mestizo group, (Spanish and Portuguese term refer to Latin people of mixed European and Amerindians), forming the majority of Venezuelas population, about 67% beside other major groups like Whites who forming 21% of the population and minority of African Blacks and Native Americans. In Colombia, Mestizo comprises 55 percent of the population and the rest are a combination of Whites, African Blacks, and Native Americans. Beside the similarity in ethnic group, Spanish is the first official language in Venezuela and Colombia as well as English, recently, has become the countrys second official language. However, Venezuelas oil boom has also contributed to an increase English usage especially in the large cities. Same as in Colombian lagers cities, English, particularly used by the upper class, but it is not commonly understood or spoken. Another area of similarities between Venezuela and Colombia involve marriage. Marriage in Venezuela has a few legal restrictions unless the person marries someone of same sex and of illegal age. However, it is expected that people in Venezuela marry others of their same or higher social class including racial status. Also, groom and bride are often preferred to do the marriage ceremony in Catholic Church with their families. Likewise, in Colombia, the upper-middle and upper classes are encouraged to marry within their own class. On the other hand, people from lower and middle classes prefer to marry someone outside of their class. For instance, mestizos and blacks prefer to marry into white families. Also, Because of high expenses of marriage, Colombians from lower middle class may choose whether civil marriage or consensual marriage. Meanwhile, Upper class people, and people who live in urban areas are often married in the Catholic Church. Beside the similarities between both of them, they do have differences. One difference that is most notable is the main export item. Since Venezuela considered as the fifth biggest member of OPEC by production, Venezuelas most profitable export item is oil. Oil is largely exports to the main trading partner United States beside other major trading partners like Netherlands, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Brazil, and Colombia. On the other hand, In Latin America, the two largest coffee producers are Brazil and Colombia. Colombia produces about 12% of the coffee in the world, so coffee is the main export item as well as other major export items like cut flowers, emeralds, and leather goods. However, those items mainly export to United States, Germany, Japan, The Netherlands and Switzerland. Other area of differences is the Medical and Health Care System. Venezuelas health-care system has a large array of public and private hospitals and clinics. Those public and private hospitals are opened to public whether upper, meddle or lower class. In contrast, health care in Colombia, recently, has been improved but this improvement has occurred mostly in upper class and middle class urban areas. In poor areas, people usually have limited access to the medical treatment and health care. Â  In conclusion, cultural differences manifest themselves in different ways and differing levels of depth. Venezuelan culture and Colombian culture shared many similarities and were different in other ways. However, the most three similarities they shared were ethnic groups, Official language and marriage. Meanwhile, trade and medical health care systems were sound pretty different from one another.

Sociopolitical Philosophy in the Works of Stoker and Yeats   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Around the turn of this century there was widespread fear throughout Europe, and especially Ireland, of the consequences of the race mixing that was occurring and the rise of the lower classes over the aristocracies in control. In Ireland, the Protestants who were in control of the country began to fear the rise of the Catholics, which threatened their land and political power. Two Irish authors of the period, Bram Stoker and William Butler Yeats, offer their views on this â€Å"problem† in their works of fiction. These include Stoker's Dracula and Yeats' On Baile's Strand and The Only Jealousy of Emer, and these works show the authors' differences in ideas on how to deal with this threat to civilization. Stoker feels that triumph over this threat can only be achieved by the defeat of these â€Å"demonic† forces through modernity, while Yeats believes that only by facing the violent and demonic forces and emerging from them could Ireland return to its ancient and traditional roots and find its place in society.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The vampire was a common metaphor used by many authors in an attempt to portray the rising lower class and foreign influence as evil and harmful to modern civilization. The Irish Protestant author Sheridan Le Fanu uses vampires to represent the Catholic uprising in Ireland in his story Carmilla. Like much of gothic fiction, Carmilla is about the mixing of blood and the harm that results from it. When vampires strike, they are tainting the blood of the pure and innocent, causing them to degenerate into undead savages who will take over and colonize until their race makes up the condition of the whole world. This was the fear the Protestants had of the rising Catholic class. They were seen as a lowly people and the fear was that they too would colonize and degenerate Ireland, and perhaps the rest of Europe, back into a primitive land of savages. This fear of the breakdown of civilization by dark forces is also what Dracula is about.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In Dracula, Stoker sets up the heroes and victors of the novel as civilized people, while the foreign villain is ancient and demonic. The book begins with the journal of Jonathan Harker, a stenographer from London who is sent to Transylvania to close a land deal with the mysterious Cou... ...rk forces that threaten it, and removing itself from these forces, in addition to simply delaying the inevitable, will only lead to further tragedy.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The works of these two Irish authors are fine pieces of fiction that effectively employ the elements of horror and tragedy which are common in gothic literature, but they also serve as valuable insights into the philosophies that were shared by many Europeans during these times of anxiety and change. It is difficult to say which philosophy is superior to the other. Stoker's Dracula   was published in 1897, while Yeats' works were written later, with The Only Jealousy of Emer  written in 1919, giving him the advantage of witnessing the Easter Rising of 1916. The turmoil of the period was not as simple as modern versus primitive or good versus evil, and certainly not everyone in Europe shared their views or anything close to them, thus making it virtually impossible to judge the superiority of one philosophy over another. While readers may not agree with either of the authors, these works are still entertaining and serve as a testament to the power of literature as a platform for social and political opinion.

My philosophy of marriage yours and your significant others philosophy of marriage. This is my Philosophy on marriage. When I think of marriage I think of a special bond between two people. I believe marriage is a choice among the ones that have a mutual relationship and they want to show other people how much they care about each other. The two make a mutual decision to have a ceremony of some sort and have a government recognize there union and that they share almost every facet of their lives together. Marriage to me means that they will endure good times and bad times together while showing mutual respect towards each other.My wife’s Philosophy on marriage. â€Å"Marriage, to me, is kind of lake taking a leap of faith. When you vow to love and be with the same person for the rest of your life, you’re putting the hopes and dreams and thoughts and feelings of two completely different lives and people into one. Finding a way to make it work isn’t always the eas iest thing, but that’s where the teamwork rally starts. It about believing and knowing the other person will always be there for you; to hear you for, support you when you need it, and to pick you up when you think you’ve fallen for good.Marriage is a partnership, a friendship, and a bond that takes a lot of work; but always reaps the best benefits and can reward you for the rest of your life if you care for it properly. † My philosophy of love and my significant others philosophy of love. I have found someone so special to me that has made my feelings and emotions change for the better. Love also brings in the sensual side of me that I do not share with others. For one that would be gross and another bond with her is set apart from her and the others. I have seen how love has made me do things for her that I would not even slow down to think about anybody else for.The next layer of the chocolate cake is still very tasty but doesn’t include the same taste and goes as far as the first layer with my wife. I can also extend that love to my children and my family, (another layer and my friends (another layer and so on†¦) that are very close to me. The love for my children are just as strong for my wife, but in a totally different way. I would do anything for my children as long as it will not make them into a bad person. For instance, I will not rob a bank for my child if they needed money, but I might inflict pain on someone who has hurt my two young daughters, all in the name of love for my children.My wife’s Philosophy on love. â€Å"Love is something that can come in so many forms. It is shown in so many different ways and means different things to different people. When you love someone you don’t mind doing things you normally wouldn’t do if it makes the other person happy. Thinking of them and showing them affection should be second nature. You want to make them laughs; it warms your heart to see them smile. Love is something that is felt within but you find different little way to bring it out and share it. Love for your spouse, your children, your parents, your friends, and together family members are all felt differently.It’s up to you to show them what love for them is. † How are you going to cope with or handle the following topics: Religion, vehicle responsibilities, spouse indepe ndence, personal independence, academic or occupational issues, intimacy, communication, money, social activities, rearing of children, and household responsibilities etc†¦? Religion is just another thing that is always there, but not necessarily in the fore front of what we think about on a daily basis. I for one am a spiritual person. I believe in a higher power, but I don’t believe in organized religion.I understand why it is there and that most people in the world need it in their lives. I don’t have a problem with it and I am always willing to listen to any body about it as long as they aren’t trying to push it on me, and being over bearing. My wife on the other hand is Jewish and doesn’t practice like most do except around the bigger holiday’s, such as, Chanukah, pass over, etc†¦ And we are both cool with that. In fact I kind of know more about here religion then she does. Coping with vehicle responsibilities is easy. I have my vehi cles and she has hers.We each pay for and maintain our own vehicles so there are no problems what so ever. We both share the driving responsibilities and it works out great. Coping with spouse independence can be tricky at times especially now that I am back in school. Sometimes she wants to go out and have girl’s night out, and I fully understand. But I have to ask her to limit herself so that I am not the only one to watch the kids all by I why doing school work all the time. I sometimes wish that I had more free time. My personal independence has changed a lot. I have to think about not just myself. Like when I was younger.I have many responsibilities’ now; Wife, Children, Work, and School. I have always been good at taken care of myself when it is needed most. Coping with academic or occupati9onal issues has been a top priority on my list. I make sure that I take care of my work activities and do the right thing for my company and for myself in order to keep a job. It is extremely important now that the recession is still going on. That also ties into my academics. I try to do as well as I possibly can because I have found that if you want to do well in life you must make sure you get your education and do as well as possible.Just getting by was my old way of life, and I have found that did not lead me to what I wanted in life. Intimacy has never been a problem for me. I have found someone that I care about and love. I am still very much able to be intimate with my wife. Communication has always been a trial and error thing with me. Over the years I have learned to listen to my wife and do what she says. By doing so I am saving a lot of grief. (Just kidding) I do try to listen to all points in any argument and then try to make the best decision possible.That was a problem earlier in life where I might have let my ego take over and make a wrong choice because I wouldn’t know how to communicate. Coping with money, like must people can be trying. I work at handling my finances and try not to over spend from time to time. Social activities, in my life has, diminished mainly because I am so involved in with my immediate family, school, and work. There is not enough time in the day. Once I finish with school I should be able to be involved in social activities. Rearing of children has been difficult at times, but again it is another part of life and I think that I am doing well.I do wish I could spend more time with them then I do, but I think they understand that I am doing it for them. Finally, coping with household responsibilities; like I have been saying this how time. I have to manage my work load, (meaning school, work, family, etc†¦) find the time to share the household responsibilities. Right now I have projects everywhere. I am building a tree house, remodeling a basement, building a fence. And so on and so on. When I have free time I try to work on something. I have become quite good at juggling.
